North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

9/23
It has taken me quite awhile to post, but I have been outrageously busy this semester. I visited my cousin a couple weeks ago in Durham, North Carolina. She moved there after graduating from ETSU last fall and she has not explored the city much. We decided to attend the Museum of Natural Sciences; we had a blast! There was information about everything from ebola, to dinosaurs, to food chains. There was a room in the museum where people 8+ could handle artifacts like skins, bones, and microscopes. It was incredible to be able to explore this portion of museum hands on rather than just looking at everything from a distance. The next exhibit we toured was the butterfly sanctuary. They had species from all over South America. It was a majestic sight.
One of their special exhibits was a social justice movement  titled "RACE". It gave historical information about how race developed as a political movement, as well as the science behind skin color. My favorite exhibit was the dinosaur section. For some reason, I am always captivated by this era of scientific information. I learned the difference between an Acrocanthosaurous and a T-Rex. The Acro (for short) is has a high spine and T-rex does not. The Acro in the museum is the most complete skeleton ever found. The museum had four levels, and we spent about three hours there. We still did not see everything, but I feel as though I learned a lot.

3/25 hours for the semester.

I am 4

I'm a hot mess. ALWAYS. I strive for perfection and never get it right. Im always late, or forgetting something, or bumping my car on curbs. I struggle to balance being the perfect daughter, sister, sister in law, auntie, niece, cousin, coworker, teacher, powerlifter, and friend...and 9/10 I am not even doing one of those roles well. One of my friends (lovingly) pointed out to me that when something is slightly hard or even really tough, my world crumbles. It's been my coping mechanism to react strongly my whole life and only got reinforced by the trauma I've endured. I've believed for so long that I have to react big or pain loses meaning. I need to be more kind and gentle with myself so I can grow and learn to handle situations with more control. I can be in control of my feelings. Through this and reading the book The Road Back to You,  I realized I am a four on the Enneagram. I thought I was a two because I have a helpful nature, then a three because I HATE for peo...

Blood Drive

10/2 I donated blood during the homecoming blood drive this week and it felt incredible to be able to serve my community. I always get slightly nervous around needles, but I only got slightly lightheaded at the end. The process only took about 1 hour and I helped save 3 lives! 4/25 hours

Church Volunteer

I have had the immense pleasure of attending and serving my church for the majority if my life. I sporadically have done elderly visitations, mission trips, food packing, and feeding the homeless. Two years ago I was the pre-school ministry intern and have continued to work with the youngest believers. However, this semester I took on a more permanent role in my service. On the first Sunday of the month, I simply attend BCCC. The second Sunday, I help lead worship in the praise band. Praise band is 4 hours of time once a month because it requires both services and two practices. The third Sunday, I assist in primary ministry which is 1st grade- 5th grade which accounts for 2 hours for both services. The fourth Sunday, I am in the two year old classroom for one hour teaching Sunday school, and if there is a fifth Sunday I am in the preschool ministry room.  I began these various roles in September 2016. To date I have completed 18 hours of community service by serving the church in...
